Glossy deep green foliage and enormous (10cm) flowers of pure white that are single and richly scented. A circle of golden stamens highlights the blooms which repeat on and off from spring to autumn. The name 'Scabrosa' refers to the roughness of the handsome foliage which is clear green with interesting veining. The summer blooms are bright cerise pink offset with golden stamens and are followed by big fat red hips. Nice sweet fragrance. Robust and vigorous. 1950.

Rugosa. This highly fragrant rose has loose, semi-double, silky pink flowers produced in repeated flushes from spring to late summer. The blooms have a cluster of golden stamens in the centre. Dense dark green foliage and thorny, upright growth habit. 1926.

As with all Rugosas this is a hardy and tolerant rose that copes well with poorer soils and even a little shade. Originally found in areas of Russia, China and Japan. Hips are used for Jam, Jelly and Tea.
