aka Holly or Holm Oak

Believe it or not this is actually an Oak tree and its name refers to the fact that the evergreen leaves are like those of an Ilex (Holly). Juvenile leaves tend to be silvery grey and mature to dark green with a downy under side. Very easy to grow. Est.10yr.growth.

If left to mature Quercus ilex forms a very large specimen tree however it can easily be used for hedging if clipped regularly. It grows well in an exposed position, particularly on the coast and makes a good windbreak. Valued through the ages for medicinal purposes.

This evergreen shrub from the Mediterranean loves hot dry spots and does well at the sea-side. Attractive tubular blue flowers are set amoungst aromatic silver grey leaves from spring to summer. Makes a fantastic low hedge and clips well. Happiest in light well drained soil.

The secret to your Teucrium hedge looking good is regular trimming however it is important that your last trim for the summer is done no later than mid March.
