Protected from comercial propagation by Plant Variety Rights. Found during a comfort stop in the Waioeke Gorge as a variation on the green rata. Small rich cream and green leaves and very compact habit. White flowers but not a feature. Does excellently in pots. Frost tender. Can be trained to be a climber

Will climb up a wall, ponga or bank if placed against it but otherwise acts as a shrub.

An evergreen NZ native with distinctive small green leaves. The margins are finely and bluntly serrated. Young Spring growth is pale green against the silvery whittish trunk. A nice specimen to have amoungst a woodland garden. Will take sandy, loamy and heavy clay soils as long as well drained.

An evergreen NZ native that is extremely decorative with its glossy, dark green leaves that colour in Winter. A great forest tree in lowland dry areas with a dark sooty trunk. As it matures it develops into a slender tree. Wind hardier than other native beechs.

A slow growing but handsome NZ native, conifer tree with a symmetrically straight tapering trunk and flattened stems acting as leaves. Produces nut like black seeds. Prefers a good soil with adequate moisture and some shelter to get established. Very cold hardy. Makes a stunning specimen. Evergreen.

Good for shrub-lands and forest of sub-alpine climates to sea level.

Native- Miro. A magnificent growing forest tree with dark bark and narrow dark green feathery foliage. The female tree has bright red berries that appear after flowering and these are a favourite food of the Kereru. Plant in a semi-shaded spot in humus rich soil. Hardy and evergreen.

Native. Commonly known as Coastal Kowhai which immediately gives you a clue to this plants natural habitat i.e. coastal forests. Dark green foliage and bright yellow, fragrant flowers from late winter to spring. Will grow in sun or part shade. Semi-evergreen.

This form of Kowhai should be evergreen but occasionally when the weather is extreme it may drop some foliage.
