Hybrid Tea
The birth of the ubiquitous Hybrid Tea rose occurred around the mid 1880’s and eventuated from some fairly random crosses between Hybrid Perpetual and Tea Roses. The resulting off-spring were not called Hybrid Teas but classified according to the dominant pollen parent. It wasn’t until 1884 that Hybrid Tea Roses were listed (in a catalogue put out by Dickson’s of Northern Ireland) as a distinct group. Many years later in 1898 the National Rose Society finally accepted these “new” roses as a separate class. In modern times Hybrid Teas have been re-classified officially as “Large Flowered Roses”. However in all my many years of working in horticulture I have never heard them referred to as such and it seems the term Hybrid Tea is here to stay.

Container: pb8 ? $44.99 aka Apricot Delight Hybrid Tea. A superb picking or exhibition rose with lovely intense apricot large, double blooms forms. Moderate fragrance. This rose looks most beautiful when fully open. Powerfully fragrant with perfect-creamy white blooms, exceptionally free flowering. Great rose for picking for vase display. A very striking rose with beautiful buds that open to fully double cream blooms that are outlined with a fine deep pink edge. Nice healthy growth habit and soft fragrance. The large blooms are a beautiful purple–magenta in color complimented of course by a huge fragrance like so many roses in this color shade. Blooms continuously from summer through to autumn. A hybrid tea of classic form with very fragrant buds of lilac-blue to almost lavender. Upright growth with good foliage. Certainly one of the best of the 'blues'. Seldom disappoints and flowers well throughout the season. 1964.
