Sitka or Alaska Spruce. A slow growing elegant Conifer that always has a well groomed appearance. Sharp pointed, grey-green needles decorate ascending branches that have graceful pendulous tips. Makes a wonderful potted Christmas tree. Can be grown in sun or part shade, prefers deep cool soil. Hardy. Evergreen.

In its juvenile form it has green glossy fern like foliage arranged along slender willowy branches. Very slow growing so looks 'forever young' for many years. Sun or shade and deeply worked well drained soil for best results. Good as a specimen in the landscape or planted in a large pot.

A graceful evergreen tree from Africa from the same family as our Totara. The name Podocarpus refers to the stalked 'fruits' of this tree and gracilior means graceful.

aka Golden Totara

Native. A handsome specimen tree for sun or part shade. The stiff narrow leaves are a beautiful golden shade and complement the reddish brown bark. Slow growing, hardy and tolerant of all conditions except wet 'feet'. Height given is 10 year estimate. Evergreen.

Totara were a valuable timer source in early NZ. Maori also used large specimens to craft their war canoes. The peeling bark was used for roofing material and for fashioning food baskets.

An excellent choice for large parks or play areas, in courtyards or along long broad driveways. The trunk will become gnarled and fabulously interesting with age. The California Redwood is a majestic forest giant in its natural habitat. It will need a permanent space to develop as it is very large and long lived. The upwardly mobile trunk is strong and straight with attractive reddish brown bark. Attractive feathery foliage sprays of green. Evergreen.

This handsome tree grows best in well drained, deep rich soil in filtered sunlight or part shade. Looks wonderful in a natural group. A tree to plant for the grand-children. Height given is 10 year estimate.

aka Cape Lilac, Tree in a hurry

Cape Lilac or Tree-in-a-Hurry a small to medium-sized tree, very fast-growing when young, attaining up to 1.3 m in a year, reaches full height within a few years, rarely exceeds 7.5m. This tree features hairy pinnate leaves, attractive mauve pink pea-shaped flowers followed by leathery pods.
