Sweet Pea Shrub. This evergreen shrub flowers pretty much all year round with vivid purple blooms that look a bit like the blossom of a pea hence the common name. Likes the sun and good drainage to do well but is reasonably tolerant, hardy and adaptable.

A bushy shrub that is naturally rounde with oval green foliage. Pea-like rich mauve-purple flowers appear on the tips of the stems almost all year around. Very showy. Best grown in a sunny warm site, will grow in almost any soil, however looks best in well fertilised good soil. Frost tender.

Best to trim annually to maintain a dense bushy shape. It does not rejuvenate well if cut back too hard.

Pyracantha are suitable for training as espaliers and look particularly good against a sunny wall where you can observe the birds par-taking of a 'berry' nice breakfast.

Commonly known as Indian Hawthorn, Rhaphiolepis fergusonii is a compact evergreen shrub with glossy green leaves and small white fragrant flowers from late winter to spring. Easy to grow in a sunny spot in the garden.

This is a tall evergreen shrub up to 3m, with large shiny leaves which look attractive all year round. It has rounded clusters of tiny pink perfumed flowers in Aug-Sept. From Central America, it is a very tough, drought-tolerant plant and is useful as a background shrub or grown as an informal hedge.

Trimming it back after flowering will promote a denser form. It will look at its best, and be most floriferous, in a sunny spot. It dislikes frost.
