The Gooseberry has long been cultivated for use in pies and jellies and has a high content of Vitamin A and potassium. You will know the berries are fully ripe in summer when they are easy to pull off. Any surplus freezes well. Plant in morning sun or part shade. Deciduous.
The Gooseberry is hardy and in fact loves a cold winter however be aware that new spring growth can be damaged by frost. Gooseberries like a nice layer of mulch or compost around their shallow roots. When pruning remember they fruit on older wood.
