aka Pinkie

A very good disease resistant, crisp and juicy apple, brightly coloured green with blush pink and good acid/sugar balance in mid season. An attractive small tree that partially weeps and produces good yields. Easy to grow. Deciduous.

Grafted on M26 rootstock to keep dwarfed. Cross between Royal Gala and Braeburn, an early season large apple with sweet, crisp flesh and mild flavour. Stake for support . Deciduous.

Apple Information Page Can be container grown but will need a permanent support stake to prevent wind rock. There should be no need to prune this apple as it will stay small and compact.

aka Gooseberry

A must to have in every home garden. Great for making pies like Gandma use too. A heavy bearing and disease resistant gooseberry with large flavourful fruit that can be used for culinary purposes or eaten fresh when fully ripe. Fruit ripens Nov - Jan Deciduous.

The Gooseberry is hardy and in fact loves a cold winter however be aware that new spring growth can be damaged by frost. Gooseberries like a nice layer of mulch or compost around their shallow roots. When pruning remember they fruit on older wood.

aka Gooseberry

A well shaped, slightly bristly fruit that is dark red when fully ripe. Berries are larger than Invicta. Good eating. The plants are very vigorous and spreading but can be shaped up by pruning. Produces occasional spines on young wood, but at maturity it is virtually spineless.

Citrus. NZ's most popular lemon and deservedly so. Very juicy and a really good cropper. Once established the tree will seldom be without a lemon. More tolerant of cold than many other lemons. Can you feel a Gin and Tonic coming on? Happiest in a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

NZ bred dwarf mandarin hybrid. The fruit is larger than a mandarin, and a bit smaller than a tangelo, with an exceptional flavour and easy peel too. Developed in NZ, its perfect for growing in our conditions here. Starts ripening when most of the winter mandarins are finishing for the season

aka Asian Pear

Whilst most Asian pears, or Nashi, have a golden-russet skin, this is the only widely-grown cultivar with a yellow-green skin. Slightly sweeter and juicier than the others, but less aromatic. Mid-season.

An exciting new nashi. Highly attractive lemon fruit with bright red/orange blush. Mild sweet, low acid flavour, with a crisp and juicy texture.

aka Navel Dwarf Orange

Citrus. 'Fukumoto' is an attractive Navel orange with large round fruit with quite a strong reddish tinge to the rind. Sweet tasting and delicious it ripens in late winter. Quite a compact grower. Plant in the sun in well drained fertile soil and protect from harsh frost. Evergreen.

aka Valencia Orange

Citrus. Named after the Lue Gim Gong who was an influential Citrus grower in America during the 1900's. A form of Valencia orange that has sweet juicy fruit with a rich flavour. The fruit is of a medium size and ripens from around November. Award winner in 1911. Evergreen.

aka Dwarf Navel Orange

Citrus. On 'Flying Dragon' rootstock to keep compact. A Spanish variety with fruit of an excellent quality and lots of juice. The fruit is produced in great quantity and is ready around June. Lovely deep red/orange skin. As a bonus the tree is relatively thornless. Happiest in a warm sunny spot.

aka Dwarf Navel Orange

Citrus. On 'Flying Dragon' rootstock to keep compact. Large, easy-peel, sweet and seedless fruit with an excellent flavour and plenty of juice. Ripening around July the mature fruit will hold well on the tree. Perfect for a container but equally at home in the garden. Evergreen.

A deciduous shrub with fine foliage. In early Summer, flat flower heads of creamy-white flower begin to emerge followed by small, glossy purple-black berries that are edible after being cooked. May be grown in full sun or partial shade where soils are moist, average condition and free-draining.

Black Beauty Elderberry is a valued plant for its medicinal and nutritional qualities. Large deep green leaflets and fragrant white flower heads in summer followed by red-black berries that can be used for juicing or you may like to make some Elderberry Wine. Deciduous.

Elderberries are also valued because of the high iron content of the fruit.
