Dwarf. Ultra-miniature agapanthus growing to only 10 cm high which features classic pure white double blooms which appear above the foliage all summer and reaching just 20 cm in height. Great border plant, suitable for containers. Evergreen.

This darling little Agapanthus has wide, short, strappy green leaves and sturdy stems of white 'snowball' flowers that appear throughout the summer. Well behaved in that it does not seed everywhere and forms a nice compact clump. Happy in the sun. Hardy and evergreen.

A fabulous dwarf Agapanthus that is well behaved and tidy. Strap like green leaves form a neat clump and from mid spring onwards multiple stems of mid blue flowers appear continuously for months. So easy to grow. Lovely to pick. aka African Lily. Evergreen.

aka Box

A slow growing compact form of Box with a naturally rounded shape. In spring the fresh new growth is shaded a beautiful soft lime green turning to a darker glossy green on maturity. Easy to grow in sun or part shade. Evergreen.

'Green Gem' is the perfect choice for a low hedge as it doesn't need as much clipping as other Buxus due to its compact habit. Nice for topiary work too. Though 'Green Gem' is very tolerant and hardy it prefers not to have 'wet feet' in winter - quite understandable, I don't much like wet feet myself!

A hardy shrub with round-oval shaped foliage with an indent at the top of each leaf. Has a growth habit being slightly wider than it is high. Suitable for planting out to create low-growing hedges. Likes a sunny position or in partial shade where soils are reasonably fertile and free-draining. Evergreen.

Great for hedging, trimming into a ball or cone.

This native 'grass' is really tough and hardy tolerating cold winds and almost any soil. The brick-orange foliage looks very graceful as it waves and dances in the wind. Ideal for planting in large drifts. If the clumps become a little untidy just chop back hard for renewed vigour. Evergreen.

Japanese Cedar. A fast growing and robust Conifer that is useful for screens and shelter belts and highly valued in the Orient as a timber tree. Forms a stately pyramidal tree if left untrimmed with curved needle foliage in green and bronze tones. Evergreen.

aka Pineapple Guava

Well it's called 'Mammoth' for a reason - bumper crops of oblong shaped fruit that are full of flavour, ready to eat around May. Great for cooking and fresh eating, also makes a nice chutney. Plant with another Feijoa for best results. Prefers a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

aka Cape Jasmine

The heady perfume of this deliciously fragrant evergreen shrub makes it a winner for planting near a window or doorway. Bright glossy dark green leaves, pure white double rosettes of fragrance in early summer. Plant in a warm, frost free position. Feed regularly for best results.

Gardenias will grow happily in a pot as long as they are fed and watered regularly. They are gross feeders and respond well to regular liquid feeding. They can take a little sun but in NZ they are best protected from the hot afternoon sun.

An unusual and desirable form of the hardy and ever reliable Holly. Very dark green leaves - can be used for hedging, topiary or as a background plant. Easy to grow just about anywhere but happiest in a sunny open spot. Evergreen.

'Sky Sentry' AKA as 'Sky Pencil' is a wonderfully architectural plant with its strong upright, columnar habit. The small, dark green, glossy leaves hug the upright stems and always look tidy. Use where you want to make a punctuation mark in the garden. Easy to grow in sun or part shade.

'Sky Sentry' is a female form of Holly but needs a male for the flowers to turn into berries. Currently there is no male form on offer. 'Sky Sentry' has been awarded a Royal Horticulture Society Award of Garden Merit.

This little Iris has to be one of my favourite NZ natives as it has such dainty white "butterfly" flowers. The narrow sword like leaves form a strong clump, the flowers appear in summer followed by ornamental seed pods. Easy to grow in average soil in a sunny position. Evergreen.

If you want a tough and easy to grow ground cover or edging plant then it would be hard to go past Liriope Royal Purple. Strong grass-like dark green foliage that forms a clump and spreads. Spikes of dainty purple flowers appear throughout summer. Tolerates sun or part shade. Evergreen

aka Box Honeysuckle

Bushy evergreen shrub with tiny oval deep green leaves. Small creamy white fragrant flowers in summer. Often used as a faster growing Box substitute. Ideal for topiary work and very effective for hedging. Fast growing and hardy.

If you want to quickly establish a nice compact low hedge then this is the plant for you. Lonicera needs a little more clipping than Box but it is very easy to maintain. When used for hedging or topiary then the flowers and fruit will be non existent.

A relatively new introduction which is sure to be a winner amongst the gardening fraternity. Glossy leathery rounded foliage which always looks neat and tidy. Fuzzy brown flower buds which open to beautifully scented cream flowers in early spring. Will grow well in a container. Evergreen.

NZ Native. This shrub is very well named - the tiny rounded leaves are a pale silvery green and certainly do seem to shimmer in the light. Forms a very nice background plant or can be used for hedging and topiary as it loves a regular hair-cut. Easy to grow in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.
