This 'Cabbage Tree' seldom forms a trunk and remains a nice compact clump. Looks good planted in groups of 3 or more and is happiest planted in the sun.

Native. NZ's iconic national symbol the 'Silver Fern' is relatively easy to grow in a semi-shaded position with humus rich soil and protection from harsh frost. Forms an erect trunk topped off with a crown of green fronds with distinctive silver-white undersides. Evergreen.

It is important that your 'Silver Fern' does not completely dry out in long hot summers. As you will be sitting under it for shade remember to give it a drink when you're having a cold one!

What a delightful little 'must have' this Daphne is. Neat and tidy grey-green foliage and dainty white flowers that open from tight pink buds from spring right through to autumn. And of course is has a wonderful fragrance. Slow growing and compact. Happy in sun or part shade. Semi-evergreen. PVR.

Depending on temperature this Daphne may shed some leaves therefore it is known as semi-evergreen. As the growth habit is slow and compact this Daphne would be happy in a container which you could position in order to maximize the lovely fragrance.

Winter Rose niger single. This is a lovely Hellebore that hails from the European Alps. This was the first Hellebore I ever purchased many years ago and I still find it hard to resist today - it is really lovely in full flower at what is usually a dull time of year.

Paniculata Hydrangea. Candlelight is an upright, hardy, stylish, deciduous shrub with creamy white blooms on deep red stems. As the blooms mature the petals get a light blush of pale pink. Its sturdy dark red twigs are held upright and don’t droop. Autumn foliage is equally impressive. Deciduous.

aka Pee Gee Hydrangea

Paniculata. An award winning Hydrangea with large conical flower heads that put on a magnificent display in summer-autumn. Flowers open a fresh shade of chartreuse, then gradually turn cream and finally become a deep smoky shade of pink. Best in humus rich soil, sun or part shade. Deciduous.

As this Hydrangea flowers on the new growth it is best pruned in early spring if in fact any pruning is required. If left to grow to its full potential it will put on a stunning display. Quite fast growing - the bloom colour is reliable regardless of the soil pH. Information Pages

Fabulous form and foliage make this Holly a useful and desirable plant. Growing naturally upright and columnar it looks great in containers or used as an accent point. Happy in sun or part shade. Small white flowers followed by black berries but these are fairly inconspicuous. Evergreen.

This is also a useful plant where a narrow screen or hedge is required, it will do the job without dominating or becoming a constant trimming problem.
