Alchemilla mollis 'Thriller' is larger and more robust than the species, forming mounds of lobed, grayish-green fuzzy leaves topped by airy yellow flowers in spring. It is best in moist soil in part shade. Great as a groundcover or for cutting.

The common name is the Lady Mantle.The wavy edged leaves are meant to represent the cloak or mantle that covered Mary as she travelled to Bethlehem.

A tall, attractive palm with silver undertones from the tropics of Queensland that will grow very well in NZ warmer climates. Prefers to be grown outside but while they are young can be grown indoors or in a covered patio/deck. Protect from harsh winds and look great if group planted.

Blueberry Southern Highbush- an attractive plant with bright blue-green foliage. Large sized berries of excellent quality and flavour. Recommended for warmer areas of NZ. Partially self fertile, but will produce bigger and better crops if pollinated with another Southern Highbush. Deciduous.

If you have a very warm sheltered spot then this is the climber for you. Deep green foliage and bright crimson red flower bracts make a stunning display from summer to autumn. Must have well drained soil and protection from frost. Evergreen.

As Bouganvillea come from South America warmth is more important to the plant than lots of fertilizer. Choose a spot where the soil is well drained and therefore does not get too cold and claggy in winter.

A slow growing compact form of Box with a naturally rounded shape. In spring the fresh new growth is shaded a beautiful soft lime green turning to a darker glossy green on maturity. Easy to grow in sun or part shade. Evergreen.

'Green Gem' is the perfect choice for a low hedge as it doesn't need as much clipping as other Buxus due to its compact habit. Nice for topiary work too. Though 'Green Gem' is very tolerant and hardy it prefers not to have 'wet feet' in winter - quite understandable, I don't much like wet feet myself!

A close relative to the European Box but this little sweetie from Asia has leaves which are a little more glossy and rounded than its cousin. It is usually dark green for most of the year but in winter the whole plant can take on a bronze tone depending on the temperature. Evergreen.

This handsome tree grows best in well drained, deep rich soil in filtered sunlight or part shade. Looks wonderful in a natural group. A tree to plant for the grand-children. Height given is 10 year estimate.

Also known as Yellow Birds of Paradise as it produces stunning yellow flowers throughout Spring and Summer. With large, lush dark green foliage it gives a nice tropical feel to any garden or large pot in a warm sheltered position. Can be grown inside in high light. Evergreen. Frost tender.

Elegant and exotic, clump forming perennial with the most unusual, tall spikes of orange and blue blooms that resemble a bird's head. Large, wide swords of blue-grey foliage. Quite easy to grow in a sunny, well drained position with protection from frost. Evergreen.

Strelitzia are quite frost tender when young but do become a little more hardy as the clump matures. They take a few years to flower but it you like a sense of drama in the garden it will be well worth the wait.

The male form of this little shrub is usually planted for one reason - to pollinate the female form so she will produce berries. On its own it forms a wide-spreading compact mound with dark green leathery leaves that have a pale under-side. Small creamy white flowers in spring. Evergreen.

For harmony in the garden it is usually recommended that one male Viburnum davidii be planted for every 3 females - not something we suggest you try at home folks.
