Wetland. A NZ (Oioi) Reed with fine grey-green needles of foliage with brown markings at intervals along the length of the leaves. Forms a large clump. Grows in water or in damp ground. Tolerates salty water. Very decorative in a pot and useful for floral work. Tough as. Evergreen.

May be toxic to animals.

Native-Wine Berry-Makomako Serrated green leaves with purple tones to the under-side, clusters of pink flowers in spring which are followed by juicy black berries that birds love. Grows happily in the sun in most soils as long as they are not too dry. Tolerates light frost. Semi-evergreen.

Berries will only occur on the female tree if pollination occurs. The Wine-Berry has separate male and female trees.
